At EXUS, we’re committed to celebrating and empowering women every single day—not just on International Women’s Day. This year, in honour of the occasion, we’re thrilled to share an interview with our Head of Marketing, Romina Tsouni. She took the time to reflect on her career journey, the challenges she's faced, and how EXUS is continuously driving change for women in the tech industry.
When I first started, I didn’t initially set out to work in tech. However, I was always drawn to industries that were fast-paced, innovative, and constantly evolving. Tech was exactly that—and more. Over time, I realized that working in tech isn’t just about coding or software; it’s about problem-solving, creativity, and shaping the future.
As I advanced in my career, I recognized how vital it is to have diverse voices in the room. The tech industry is one of the most powerful forces shaping the world, and I knew I wanted to contribute by ensuring that women’s perspectives were included in that transformation.
Like many women in tech, I’ve been the only woman in the room more times than I can count. Early on, I felt the need to work harder to prove my expertise, and often faced the pressure to justify my place at the table. One particular moment early in my career stands out when someone compared me to "ruthless" women in the corporate world—as if being ambitious was a flaw.
But over time, I realised that true strength isn’t about being ruthless—it’s about confidence, persistence, and owning your space unapologetically. One of the key turning points for me was understanding that I didn’t have to navigate this journey alone. Building a strong network of mentors, allies, and fellow women in tech was a game-changer.
At EXUS, we don’t just talk about diversity—we take action. We believe that innovation thrives when teams are diverse, and we’ve made it a priority to cultivate an inclusive culture where women can succeed. Here’s how we’re putting that into practice:
Women in Leadership: 45% of managerial roles at EXUS are held by women. We're committed to investing in future female leaders and providing them with clear pathways to leadership positions.
Equal Growth Opportunities: Gender-inclusive hiring practices, leadership training programs, and mentorship initiatives ensure that women have the same opportunities to advance in their careers as their male counterparts.
A Supportive Culture: We strive to create an environment where women are encouraged to lead, voice their ideas, and make decisions. By fostering open conversations and providing mentorship, we ensure that every woman at EXUS has the resources and support they need to thrive.
To young women entering the tech industry, my advice is simple: Be fearless. Own your expertise and understand the value of your perspective. The tech industry needs your creativity, ideas, and leadership.
Here’s what I recommend:
Take up space: Don’t wait for permission. Step forward, speak up, and make sure your presence is known.
Stay curious: Tech is always evolving, so never stop learning. Keep experimenting and adapting to new challenges.
Lift others up: Support, mentor, and champion other women in tech. We’re stronger when we grow together.
Above all, remember that you belong in this industry—because you absolutely do.
This International Women’s Day, let’s do more than just celebrate women—we need to take real, tangible action. Whether it’s mentoring a young woman, advocating for diversity in hiring, or creating more opportunities for women in leadership, we all have a role to play in making tech more inclusive.
At EXUS, we’re committed to empowering women—not just today, but every single day.
